Dances with Wolves captures scenes from Kevin Costner's film playing in a dark room while a violent act occurs involving eyeglasses, broken glass, and a condom, creating a contrast between a "Manifest Destiny' narrative of the American West and a personal narrative in contemporary American suburban life. A pop cultural take on American history is fused with what could be a personal memory, calling attention to the role that pop culture plays in memory formation and historical knowledge.
